Biography

Oklahoma native Myron A. Wright was raised in Waynoka, Oklahoma, and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1933 with a degree in civil engineering. He went to work for Carter Oil Company of Tulsa before moving to Exxon when the Tulsa company became part of the giant organization. In 1966 he was named chairman of the board and chief executive, serving until his retirement in 1976. Only 13 months later, Mr. Wright joined Cameron Ironworks in Houston, Texas, as its chairman, president, and chief executive officer. He was named president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1967, served on the board of governors of both the U.S. Postal Service and the National Water Commission, and was a top leader of the National Wildlife Federation.

Mike Wright is the author of the book The Business of Business: Private Enterprise and Public Affairs, published in 1967. The book is a collection of speeches he made during his term as President of the United States Chamber of Commerce.
