Wacky Weather Day - Gary England
Today we’re grabbing our rain jackets, umbrellas, and bathing suits! Nothing is crazier than Oklahoma weather right?? Especially this week! Today’s theme is inspired by Oklahoma Hall of Fame Member Gary England. His hometown is Seiling, Oklahoma. England got degrees in math and meteorology from the University of Oklahoma and went on to become one of the most successful meteorologists. He also invented several tools and systems used in meteorology today, such as the Doppler radar and many others. England has assisted in many areas, authored a book, and received awards for his work! You can learn more by reading Gary England’s Oklahoma Hall of Fame biography.
Gary England was even in the movie Twister that was filmed right here in Oklahoma! They filmed the movie at Kaw Lake, Stillwater, Guthrie, and more.

Movie Time! Could Oklahoma weather be any crazier? What if it rained meatballs? Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is one of our favorites and we think it tops Oklahoma weather! This fun video teaches us all about tracking weather and how to understand its patterns.
Storytime! Now is the perfect time for stories about the arrival of spring! Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring is a great book for the whole family and you can hear it read aloud here. This resource also has some awesome information about weather just for kids!
Arts & Crafts! Rain can make us sad sometimes, but then it can help make rainbows that make us smile! This fun handprint rainbow craft is great to celebrate the return of the sun after rain. There’s also this fun windsock craft!
Make & Eat it! The weather can put us in the mood for certain foods and springtime makes fruit sound great! Try this awesome looking deep dish fruit pizza from Oklahoma Hall of Fame Member Ree Drummond, the Pioneer Woman!
