Hoops Day - Wayman Tisdale
Today we’re celebrating one of this state’s favorite sports: basketball! Here at the Museum we love staying active! What’s a good way to do that? Play sports! Today, we’re going to focus on one of our favorite sports: basketball!
Today’s theme is inspired by Oklahoma Hall of Fame Member Wayman Tisdale. His hometown is Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tisdale played basketball for the University of Oklahoma for 3 years before entering the NBA. He played for 3 teams over 12 seasons in the NBA. Following his time in the NBA, Tisdale became a successful Jazz musician. Several of his albums made the top 10 on the Billboard charts. You can listen to him play here! You can learn more by reading Wayman Tisdale’s Oklahoma Hall of Fame biography.
There are other Oklahomans that played basketball as well! Russell Westbrook played the sport for the Oklahoma City Thunder for several seasons. You can learn more about him here! Marques Haynes is also a member of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame!
Listen to it! One of our favorites is a classic. Can you guess what it is? Space Jam! We love to watch this movie when it’s time to get ready for basketball season. Listen to the soundtrack from the movie here before you watch it.

Movie Time! One of our favorite basketball movies is Air Bud! You can rent and stream it on Amazon. You can also check out this video from this season of Thunder Basketball!
Storytime! What’s funnier than watching a dinosaur play basketball? Not much! Checkout Lisa Wheeler’s Dino Basketball here. Or listen to the read aloud!

Arts & Crafts! Everyone will be shocked when you make this “shocked basketball craft”! Here is a fun way to make a basketball funny. There’s also some fun activities on this site, like a maze! How fast can you make it in the hoop?

Make & Eat it! Sounds like a post game snack is in order! Look at this delicious snack from Oklahoma Hall of Fame member Ree Drummond, the Pioneer Woman.
